Valentine’s might be a little different for most of us this year, but that doesn’t mean you can’t spoil yourself (or your other half). Who needs fancy restaurants and bars when you can have your own cosy night in, anyway?
Whether you’re enjoying a Galentine’s with your best friend, spending an evening with your partner, or even just chilling out on your own - we’ve got some top suggestions to make your Valentines as special as it should be!
Soak your cares away with a relaxing spa day
This one has to be our favourite! Self-care is always important, but especially at the moment. Take the day off and have a pamper day. Light some candles, get the bath pouring and get out all your fave beauty products. You deserve it!
Grab some popcorn and have a cosy movie night
Who doesn’t love a good movie night? Grab some cosy blankets, yummy snacks, and make your own pillow fort or home cinema in your living room! With lots of events taking place online this year, you could even watch a live-streamed musical or theatre performance in the comfort of your own home. It’s a foolproof Valentine’s plan.
Bake some Valentine’s treats
Baking is a lovely way to show someone you care, or even just a great way to treat yourself to some sugary goodness. Whether you’re planning on heart-shaped cookies or indulgent brownies, you’ll have the kitchen smelling of sweet treats in no time at all. Just try not to eat them all before you share them - unless that’s your plan, of course!
Have a themed dinner together
Most of us won’t be able to head out for dinner this year, but that shouldn't stop you from enjoying your favourite dishes from home. Transform your kitchen into an Italian diner or hip sushi bar - you can find plenty of restaurant-quality recipes online. If you don’t fancy cooking, you could always opt for a tasty take-out. For an extra special evening, why not pop open a bottle of champagne?
Create a playlist for your other half (or best friend!)
Gone are the days where you had to spend ages burning CDs or recording tapes. Now, you can easily create playlists on sites like Spotify or YouTube and send them straight over to whoever you’ve got in mind.
Put together a collection of songs that remind you of times spent together. Whether it’s a song from when you first met or perhaps one that you both just really love - it’s a great way to show you care and remember all those special moments!
Try a virtual escape room
Lots of popular events have gone virtual this year, including the ever-popular escape rooms. If you’ve never been to one before, then the idea is simple: navigate around a room finding and solving hidden clues to help you get out. Which one of you is the mastermind of the relationship? There’s only one way to find out.
Enjoy breakfast in bed
As Valentine’s lands on Sunday this year, hopefully you’ll get to enjoy some time off. If you’re planning on enjoying a much-needed lie-in, why not go all the way and enjoy breakfast in bed too? Pro tip: Refrigerate some pancake mix the night before, so you don’t have to spend too much time cooking in the morning!
Send a thoughtful gift
Valentines shouldn’t be all about expensive gifts, but if you’re away from your partner this year then you might want to send them something special. If they’re obsessed with skincare, how about sending a package with all their favourite beauty products? We’ve got a special Gifting section on our site to make the (usually) difficult task of choosing gifts that little bit easier!
Have a virtual date
Won't get to see your partner this year? Dress up in your outfit of choice and have a virtual date together. Enjoy dinner and drinks over a video call, or fantasise about when you can see each other again - it won’t be quite the same, but it’s a good excuse to dress up and have a laugh together. They say best things come to those who wait ;)
...Or spend it as a normal day!
There’s no need to feel like you should be doing something special, just because it’s the 14th of Feb. If you’re not up for making a big deal of Valentine’s, then that’s fine too!
